Worship

We worship each Sunday morning at 10:00 am and in special services throughout the year. The liturgical seasons of the church year influence both our worship and devotional life.

During Sunday morning worship you will be invited to participate in the service bodily with your heart and mind, with standing (if able) and sitting, with your voice and in silence. You will be invited to participate by joining in responsive readings, by singing or reading timeless hymns and contemporary songs, by requesting prayers of intercession or thanksgiving, by hearing and responding to the Word of God read and proclaimed, by offering part of God’s blessings to you to the life and ministry of Christ’s Church.

A nursery is available for children under five. For our younger worshippers, we provide a worship notebook with puzzles and coloring projects based on the morning’s scripture readings. All of our worship materials are printed in a font and size for easy reading. We have individual hearing devices for worshippers with limited hearing range. We have an enclosed lift available to assist worshippers to reach all areas of our building. We believe worship should be accessible to everyone.

Who We Are

We are a congregation of Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (USA) serving Jesus Christ and bearing witness to the Kingdom of God from the crossroads of Jersey County, Illinois.

We have been serving Christ in Jersey County for 180 years.

We seek to deepen our relationship with God through worship, Bible study and service.

We are dedicated to the health and welfare of our community. We serve as Rotarians, on the Jersey County Fair Board, Jerseyville Library Board, city council and Jersey County Business Association; in our schools, doctor’s office and hospital.

We are servants of our community. We provide meeting space in our church for community non-profit groups to hold their meetings. The Jersey County Business Association uses or facilities for their Lunch and Learn series. The Silas Hamilton Chapter of the DAR uses our facilities for their awards banquets.

We believe in working together. We have been actively involved with the Jersey County Ministerial Alliance that worked with The Stadium Theater in putting on special Saturday morning free film events, worked to feed hungry children during the summer and provided financial assistance to people in crisis and worshipping together in celebrations of Thanksgiving and Easter. We are one of the Jersey County Character Counts Community Partners. We participate in the Jersey County Interagency Council as we seek to address the needs of people in Jersey County.

We do not ask, “Who is our neighbor?” We simply seek to be “the neighbor” everyone wishes they had and that Christ calls us to be.
